Plant Drops Labor Day For Muslim Holiday


More Than Half Of Tyson Plant’s Workforce Muslim

Workers at the Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day but will instead be granted the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr.

According to a news release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, a new five-year contract at the plant included the change to accommodate Muslim workers at the plant.

  1. It looks like they backed out of this deal after being pressured by anti Islamic groups/people on the internet. They reinstated Labor Day and the workers only get Eid al-Fitr this year and next year all employees will get a floating holiday that they can decide to take whenever they want.
    I wonder if it would be so easy to take away Christmas since the ppl who complained said it wasn’t fair the company was catering to a specific religious group….. nevermind the fact that the majority of workers are muslim and asked for Eid al-Fitr instead of another day….. I guess democracy is only good when it’s the Christians who are getting their way and an actual majority doesn’t really matter after all.
